Alexandro - Nevsky Lavra

Like the Peter and Paul Fortress, the Holy Trinity Alexander Nevsky Lavra stands at the very origins of the city's history. This is the first and largest monastery in St. Petersburg. The monastery was founded in 1710 by order of Peter I at the supposed site of the famous battle of the Neva. In 1723, the tsar personally transferred the relics of Alexander Nevsky from Vladimir to the Lavra. The Alexander Nevskaya Lavra is a special museum with special exhibits, as besides the monastery complex itself, there are several ancient cemeteries within the boundaries of the Lavra, carefully keeping the memory of the founders and great people of St. Petersburg. To bury a loved one at the Lazarevskoye cemetery, the permission of the emperor was required. This oldest and most elite cemetery was the burial place of the city nobility and representatives of the princely estates. That is why almost all tombs and gravestones in the cemetery are real works of memorial art: stone or cast-iron gravestones with columns, sculptures, emblems, artistic cutting and stucco molding. Currently, the Lazarevskoye cemetery is a museum-necropolis of the 18th century. The Tikhvin cemetery was almost completely destroyed and in its place already in the 20th century a necropolis of art masters appeared - famous sculptors, composers and artists are buried here.

Cathedral Mosque

Among the numerous churches of multi-confessional St. Petersburg, the St. Petersburg Cathedral Mosque is of particular interest. The Northern Art Nouveau and the traditional Oriental style have merged in its architecture. The author of the project, the architect N.V. Vasiliev, managed to harmoniously combine the rough Finnish facing stone with the picturesque, sophisticated ceramic decor and fanciful ornaments. You will not limit yourself to an external examination, but go inside this externally unapproachable building. An experienced guide will introduce you to the history and internal structure of the mosque and its architectural and construction features. You will also learn about the meaning of the mosque, fivefold, Friday and holiday prayers; the significance of the mihrab, minbar and minarets; and the history of the Muslim community in Russia.
