Imperial Porcelain Factory
Porcelain is the most guarded Chinese secret, which all European powers have been tryed to uncover for several centuries. The composition of the "White Gold" was hunted by politicians and merchants, scientists and adventure hunters. The Factory Museum, which is now part of the Hermitage, was founded in 1844 by order of Emperor Nicholas I. It appeared much earlier than such famous repositories of works of art as the Tretyakov Gallery and the Russian Museum. The museum has formed the world's only unique collection numbering more than 30 thousand exhibits. These are porcelain and glass from the Imperial factories, propaganda porcelain of the Soviet period, products of famous European manufactories and Russian private factories, samples of Japanese and Chinese porcelain. Items presented here have no analogues in any museums in the world. Stieglitz Academy with master class
After visiting this place, Scandinavian design, minimalism and ergonomics lose their attractiveness unable to compete with the masterpieces of decorative and applied art. We invite you on an excursion to the Academy of Stieglitz, one of the most inaccessible museums in St. Petersburg. Founded in 1876, the school has continued its activities in our time. During the excursion, you will learn about the history of the Academy, see various works of applied art: collections of Russian tiled stoves of the 18th century and fabrics of the 1920s-1940s, carved art furniture, porcelain, metal, and ceramics. The tour takes place in unique 19th century interiors, which are interesting in themselves. The building of the museum in the Solyanoy Gorodok is an outstanding architectural monument of St. Petersburg of historicism period. The decoration of thirty-two halls of the museum reflects almost all historical epochs and styles, designed to serve as a teaching aid for the students of the Academy.
